Good afternoon all, I’m just going through some coins from my local bank and have come across a dime that has some interesting damage, wanted to know if it’s PMD or an actual error ( it is the color on the rear of the coin that made me think it may be an error ) many thanks in advance Dime error by Darren Edwards posted Aug 20, 2021 at 4:18 PM Dime error by Darren Edwards posted Aug 20, 2021 at 4:18 PM
Now that is an interesting dime. On the reverse, there is a partial clad layer which is an error but I'm not sure about the big crack, it could be PMD.
I was thinking the same, it’s possible someone use snips to cut it for reasons I don’t know, would better pictures of the crack help determine what it could be? Thank you for the reply
Something like a ragged fissure. I would say that it is a planchet error coin and not PMD. It has got a bit of Blakesley effect on it.
I’m going to google that right now, thank you for the reply. I’ve had a good run with dimes today and still have around $60 left to go through so hoping I get more results
I'm Thinking your coin falls under this error listing. Ragged Fissure. I believe your coins planchet came from the end of a strip due to it also having the missing clad layer. http://www.error-ref.com/ragged-clips/ Check it for weight if you can.
I just finished reading that and it seems to be describing what I have here. If it is then I’m really happy as I haven’t managed to find a genuine error since I started coin roll hunting until this one. Thank you for the reply and link to the info
And there is also this one. http://www.error-ref.com/partial-clad-layer-before-strike/ Nice find two errors in one.
Thanks for the link, I’m more than happy with two errors in one lol. Is it worth me sending off for grading at all? I don’t have anything slabbed yet but don’t want to waste money sending something off that is not worth paying for
You coin being underweight will help verify it is an error coin. I would say yes to it being sent to a TPG. JMO The man to ask is really @Paddyman, I believe he has useful and accurate knowledge of slabbed error coins. He's already interested.
That’s great thanks again for the reply, I will throw it on the scale as soon as I’ve finished unwrapping all the other dimes I picked up today, found this, a silver Roosevelt and an entire roll of mixed 80s that have full bands and look new, I will post pictures of all once I’ve finished. Thinking I may of picked up someone’s old collection they decided to dump at the bank as the finds have been amazing.
