Hi I just started collecting pennies as a hobbie. What I need to know is , how hard is it to spot an error on a coin? I bought a loop from a coin dealer and i look at every coin looking for the smallest error. do the errors really stick out??? how hard should i look? also in my first roll of coins I found a wide AM on a 2000 coin. nice start, but that was easy to see thank you for any help bill
Wide Am huh! Not bad for the first roll, got any pics, so we can confirm, I mean enjoy with you:hug: Also, Welcome to the forum
have to wait for wife to get home from her trip to send a pic. dont know how lol definitly a wide AM compared it to other 200s
Yea, I got a couple of 98 Wide Am's but have a hell of a time finding one of those. My Uncle has found three 00's so far and it drives me nuts. Good find!
For most errors, if you can't see it with a 5x magnifier, its not worth it. And the good ones will be immediately obvious that something is different.
Nice find and Welcome:hail:to the forum. Here's a site to help you ID errors. And I look very carefully at coins and dates known for errors, others not so carefully. http://hermes.csd.net/~coneca/
hey thanks for the info. wanted to let everyone know that last night i found a 1972 with the date doubled just a little. i took it to a dealer to make sure and he said that indeed it was doubled just a little bit. only the date though. wish i knew how to put a pic on here so i could show everyone. begginers luck i guess.
Yep, a picture would be nice. Those Doubled Dies can fool you. Go to 'go advanced' and the paperclip icon. You can then load your attachments.
