So I have been doing a little shopping on ebay.. (I know )..I won this auction. http://www.ebay.com/itm/131079989505?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 Coin World says its valued at $25. Even if you went with the PF68, it still says its worth $15. Before I buy anymore things...could some please enlighten me as to why I won this at this price. Thank you, enjoy reading every ones posts on here. Pete
Kennedy halves get no love sometimes. I would venture to guess high pop and most of anyone who collects the series either already has one of this grade or a 70. That is a nice snipe though.
All price guides, including Coin World, are almost always high on the valuations. You would be better off using completed auction listings for a more accurate measure of value. Chris
I would say because its only a 69, and 70's exist. One step down on common issues like high grade proofs can destroy a value. Almost any modern issue where there are a good number of 70's graded have much lower prices on the 69's. Having said that, I think it was a good deal.
That is a nice price for a nice coin. I have an entire set of Proof 69 UC Kennedy Proof Halves, and the non-silver issues after 1972 can be had for $10 is you are patient. It took me a few years, but I eventually got all of them and the silvers, which I got for about $20 each in that grade. You got a great price, there is nothing wrong with your coin.
Proof coins are generally less popular, especially in an old slab where edge is not visible. I picked up a US proof cent, nickel and dime, all between $3 - $5 a piece in PCGS PR69. The quarters and halves I was looking at were all in the $6 - $10 range. The shipping was too steep to Canada, so I didn't pull the trigger. Actually, it was two cents and all four coins were shipped from same seller for reasonable shipping. All through ebay. Sometimes we have to ask ourselves one question, "Why did I pay so much?". http://www.ebay.com/itm/1974-S-NGC-...D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
Btw, on a side note don't feel sorry for sellers who have to sell 69's for such a small amount. They submitted these coins "head hunting" for 70's, and their outsized profits on those 70's will cover their costs and profits.
Because maybe, just maybe, it's only worth $6.00 and the Coin World pricing is "unrealistically high?
