Hi all, been learning a lot from you guys! I really like the coins with the twins and she wolf, and the great story and history. Been picking up some bronze here and there. Love this coin. Don't know why, but I have a thing for bronze coins. But would be great to pick up one in silver too sometime. Here's the coin I have... would love to see others coins with this theme... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romulus_and_Remus
That's a nice example @old49er. I always wanted one of those but it has not come yet. There are some decent Provincial wolves. Severus Alexander Antioch Pisidia AE33 Maximinus I Ninica Claudiopolis AE31
Curious if there would be a link from Pre-Denarii Roman coinage through Roman history to the "which last Emperor" that minted coinage with a She-Wolf...
Cool @old49er I don't have all my info in my phone but I do have these 2 examples. Same but different mints. 1 is Trier & I could be wrong but thinking the other is Herachlea (?) View attachment 552965 View attachment 552966 Not the best but its what I have saved in my.phone. I swapped pictures for the 1st coin with much better, was same coin just different lighting.
When NASA had a naming contest for their twin Mars rovers (Spirit and Opportunity), I wanted to name them Romulus and Remus as Mars was their mythical father. I didn't get selected . Anyway, @old49er that is a cool coin, especially from @John Anthony and one that is quite popular. Here is my coin: Roman Empire, City Commemorative, Urbs Roma, Follis, Siscia (RIC-240) Obv: Helmeted and cuirassed bust of Roma facing left. Legend around - VRBS ROMA Rev: Lupa Romana standing left, suckling twins Romulus and Remus; two stars above. Legend below - • ASIS • From the Nether Compton hoard
In the Star Trek universe the Vulcans and the Romulans are enemies but at the same time distant cousins. I believe this storyline originated from the Romulus and Remus story
