I pulled out all my Romans this morning for no particularly good reason. This represents my first few months of collecting ancients. A nice looking bunch of mugs if I do say so myself. Just gotta play with your coins sometimes. :)

    Atta boy ...

Ummm, so which one is your favourite, so far?

Of the bronzes, the Constantius Chlorus - the size, strike, and color are just perfect.

Of the denarii, the Trajan of course.

But it's like picking your favorite child - it can't really be done. I like them all for different reasons.

But there is always that one exceptional child, or that one rotten child of the bunch.

Actually, a very nice start. Much better than most.

Thanks friend. It sure as heck beats counting registry points, but that's just my preference. I don't mean any disrespect to anyone else's collecting interests.

Ahh, I remember when I was able to do that, just take out those few ancient coins I had all at once, when I was just starting out. If I did that now it would be a mess, but a nice mess though!

I still love my moderns, especially the Kennedy Half Dollars. I've got a very fine Dansco album going on, but the whole registry thing just didn't suit my personality.

    Great Team Picture!

US Third Party Graders have registries to rank slabbed coins

This are assigned registry points based on grade, desirability, etc.

I may start a Registry set myself, but I don't buy the Slab, but the coin (and I will not buy an Ancient coin in a slab unless it is very expensive ($2,000 plus))

I just prefer the look of Gem coins, and like the easy protection of a slab (plus, it makes it easier for family to buy coins for me as gifts...)

I'm not sure, but I think Bing was being tongue-in-cheek.

151 coins in 13 months (400 days) ... so on average, I've bought an ancient coin every 2 to 3 days ...

    => it's a hectic pace!!

    ... and lovin' it!!

=> JA => you're on track to shatter my ancient rookie-season!! (Godspeed)

Yeah, that's about right. A little light though. You need to get into group lots more. :D

Nothing like being able to up yoru ante with groups of 50 or more. Just in the last 6 weeks I have got two 50+ lots.

you're 100% correct => I hunt with a rifle, not a shotgun ... I'm sure my tally probably falls within the average range, "overall"

I used a rifle with large explosive rounds...

I prefer the single shot rifle, picking my shot before pulling the trigger.
