    As you may know, the finest catalogs in the world are produced by NAC (Numismatica Ars Classica, from Switzerland). Recently they put out spectacular catalogs with collections of Roman Republican coins and coins of the Germanic migrations. These and many more are offered on my page:

    They include paper copies of the prices realized so you can tell what the coins are actually worth.
    I also have an educational site of which catalogs have outstanding collections of which theme, so, if you collect, say, coins of of the first century AD (or any other theme), you can see catalogs that would be excellent references:
