http://www.acsearch.info/search.html?search=similar:60650&view_mode=1#0 T. Cloulius denarius c.128 BC or actually about 3/4 of one.
Nice detail for what could fit on the flan. Unfortunately these are one of the "boring" RR denari with head of Roma/Dioscori. Every RR collector has some, and some even collect them specifically, but its by far the most common type in RR coinage. Its kind of like if you collected cents. You would get pretty bored with lincoln after lincoln, and look forward to the IHC and large cents you could find.
Lol, just saw this listed on ebay by you and then using another "private" account to jack up the bids? Funny.... Now the ebay auction is "ended" and this thread is edited...even funnier.
Is this a case where we need to ask the moderators to close an account? I could not find it. Did you report it to eBay?
Nope, FrankV here closed it himself after being caught. It can be found with a "recently end" search. http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAP...BEGx0x9w%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc#ht_500wt_771
I am sorry, but I am disappointed sir. If you wish this board to do your attributions for you to post on Ebay, I wish you would state that up front. Some here do this professionally, others have many things to do, and I simply believe its unfair to lead them to believe they are helping out a collector when in fact they are being used as free labor for a business. It is that sort of abuse that drives people like Doug and Ardatirion away from sites like this. Btw excellent detective skill Inspector Mat!
He's also been bidding up his other listings, this tool should be banned. http://offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBids&_trksid=p4340.l2565&rt=nc&item=200730631118
I don't even mind helping someone who plans to sell, from time to time. But Frank, why remove the post?
I did tell Ardatirion I was going to be putting up my Roman and I am selling some lower grade coins. I am converting my collection. I do not see what any of you are going to personally gain out of reporting me to Ebay. I will stop as I have been caught.
I agree that there is no offence selling coins I may have helped identify although I admit I am more likely to put a level of effort into a hard one like the Domna when I think it is for a collector. The problem here was the shill bidding. I agree that prices on eBay are unfair. In the last decade eBay has become the haunt of jerks who post junk coins with write ups trying to convince beginners that they are rare and valuable. I was surprised that the Republican here was posted at .99 which is a fair start for the broken coin. I'd wonder if this were not all a misunderstanding but for the private bidder which is usually a sign of a shill. eBay has a provision for selling coins at a price 'fair' to dealers who think they may go too cheaply. It is Buy it Now. Post that denarius at 100 pounds and we will all ignore it or not as we see fit. Posting at .99 says to me that I will have to bid against several other people including some last second snipers that will drive the price. I suspect this coin would sell fairly in the under 10 pound range. I do regret all this since I now won't be able to bid on the Domna but know I would never beat those who think it is worth the equal of a fully legible coin.
I was just upset sir since I didn't want contributors to feel they are working for free in helping find attributions. If you said you wanted help to sell these, then its up to them to decide for themselves. I am simply nervous about this because it has been done before, and people have felt used. As for Ebay, I would only say its easy to start the auction at a price you are ok selling it for, or using a BIN. I personally hope you stay, we always welcome people here. Everyone gets ticked off from time to time, you cannot change the past, just adjust accordingly. I know for a fact I have ticked off people on the board, I cannot take it back just try to not in the future. Chris
