Roman Lead Seals

    I know it’s pretty rough, but I’ve been curious about getting my hands on one of these for a while, and the price was right. Lots of them look way rougher, anyway. Pretty tough to photograph.

    It was found in England. To me it looks like two confronting busts, with what appears to be a bundle of grapes (?) hanging between them. From the art style, maybe 4th century? That might be a stretch.

    Does anyone have any nice seals, lead or otherwise, they’d like to share? Or information on how they were used?

    That's a neat piece. I know next to nothing about these lead seals, but curiosity got the better of me and I picked up one earlier this year in an auction.

    Interesting, and you did a fine job of photographing that mountainous terrain!

    Since we're speculating, I see five busts/heads:

    Maybe @Ardatirion can shed some light but I haven't seen him around here in a long time. Ardy, where have you been? Come back! We miss you :(
