I'm excited, I've been collecting Roman Imperial Coinage for about 3 or 4 mos now. I'd focused mostly on various Emperors. But this week I passed a milestone of sorts. I purchased my first coin with a woman on it, what's more; I got it from a fellow CoinTalk Forum member. Thanks Mat! Hopefully the first of many. I'd ask any interested CoinTalkers to post some of their favorite ancient Roman coins depicting the imperial women in this thread. Thanks! Here's my first: Julia Maesa; 222-235 AD Sister of Julia Domna and grandmother of the boy emperors Elagabalus (218-222AD) and Severus Alexander (222-235 AD). AR Denarius; 18mm/3g Rome Mint OBV: IULIA MAESA AVG; Draped bust right REV: PVDICITIA; Pudicitia, seated left, drapery at neck in right, scepter in left (RIC IV 268)

At the time of writing in 1903, Rostovtev knew of one specimen in the Kestner museum. This would presumably be the second one. So only slightly rarer than the usual lead tessera.
