I've been trying to ID this one myself but I just can't seem to piece together the wording on the reverse. Also I think maybe that is an ichthys / fish symbol on top of the wreath? Or perhaps something else. It is larger sized - though struck funny or worn down to an oval shape. About 26mm on the long side and 9.3g. Any ideas very much appreciated!
Kinda looks like Lucius Verus to me, and this is the closest I could find: Hieropolis BMC 35 Syria, Cyrhestica. Hieropolis. Lucius Verus. 138-161 AD. AE 23mm (8.19 gm). Laureate head right / QEACCYPI/ACIEPOPO/H, in three lines within laureal wreath. http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/ric/lucius_verus/t.html
Very close - it is actually Marcus Aurelius. It's very difficult to tell the difference between the two on provincial issues. In this case, only Marcus is depicted laureate and draped. All issues for Verus from Hierapolis only show his head. http://rpc.ashmus.ox.ac.uk/coins/6984/
That's super! Thank you I was just reading how Marcus Aurielius & Lucius Verus were co-emperors for a while. Any idea what the fish like symbol at the top of the wreath is? Is it a mint mark?
