roman denarius

    It looks like a denarius of emperor Vespasian with the God Mars on the reverse.

    I agree with Eduard. The emperor is unmistakable. Gotta love that ugly mug, it always reminded me of Ed Asner.

    Yes - I have a similar one at present. Looks better in the hand than these scans suggest, but definitely Vespasian.

    Always interesting to those of us living in Dorset as Vespasian as a General was responsible for the capture of Maiden Castle from the indigenous Brits. That extraordinary fort is only a few miles from here.

    Vespasian was an amazing general and emperor.
