Hi, I have two roman coins dated from 1572, the first is GREGORIUS XIII and the second is CARLOUS IXD. They are both in perfect condition and I would like to know what they are worth. Anyone that can help me I would be very gratefull. Thank you in advance.
Well the 1st sounds like it might well be a medal commemerating the birth of Pope Gregory XIII 1572 to 1585 and possibly one of Charles IX of either France or Sweden bit hard to say without a pic or scan. They might well be modern issues Nearly forgot to say Welcome to CoinTalk LOL
here are the scans of my coins thank you for your response, I am sending the scans of my coins, the photos give the coins no justice as they are in perfect condition. I am also adding a link I have found, I hope you can help me. Thank you again. http://www.123numismatique.com/documents/monnaies/panier.php
"CAROLVS IX DG FRANCORVM REX INVIC" is Latin for "Charles IX, by the Grace of God Invincible King of France". I don't know enough about 16th Century numismatics to determine whether your item is a coin or a medal, but I lean toward its being a medal because of the lack of a denomination and its overall appearance. The other piece is definitely a medal of some sort related to Pope Gregory XIII. Reading the legends on both would have been much easier for us old folk with failing eyesight had your pictures been in focus, right side up, or preferably both.
