Hi All, First time posting on here. I have always had a coin collection and lately have been trying to add some new coins, especially older ones. I should have gotten on here a long time ago to learn more about coins.... It is probably too late now, but can anyone tell from the pictures above if this coin is a fake? I recently "won" it on ebay but haven't bought yet. It wasn't more than $20 so I wouldn't be too screwed, but after looking at it some more I am not sure. It just seems to perfect and I would have thought it would have gone for more money. What do you all think? I bought a few others too that I haven't paid for yet but this is one of the main ones I am concerned with. I think it looks neat if nothing...
Welcome to the forum It is a legit coin. Nothing wrong with it. Pretty nice example IMO. I assume you have the attribution? If not I can get it for you. stainless
Thanks stainless. That is great to hear! The coin is described as a - Constantine I, 307-337 A.D., bronze 17 mm
Ok, those three were the last ones I won. These are the only ancient coins I have bought other than a couple from Apmex.com. Bidding on ebay is new for me.
Those look okay. All those are supposed to come with an RIC. if you don't have them I'll get them for you in the next couple of days (at least the two better ones, the ones with no MM I can't do nothing for except tell you what they are). lmk. stainless
the RIC (Roman Imperial Coinage) is a way to identify a certain coin from the Roman Empire. there are 13 volumes in total This is the site I use: http://www.catbikes.ch/coinstuff/coins-ric.htm stainless
they all look real to me too how much did you pay for the others if you dont mind me asking? If you not sure about the value of coins you want to get, you might want to shop around and see what what in your price range and what intrests you. when I first started collecting ancients I was suprised on what I could afford. www.forumancientcoins.com www.nobleromancoins.com www.vcoins.com
Constantius II 337-341 AD AE3 gF Obv:CONSTANTIVS NOB C rev: GLOR-IA EXERC-ITVS Exergue: SMANS RIC VII Antioch 87 stainless
17.50 for the first one I posted. 9.50 for the she wolf coin. 7.50 for the next one down. 16.50 for the very last one. They were all ones I bid on ebay. That isn't including S/H though. I mostly have older 1900 US coins, so now I have been bidding on Colonial coins and just now the Roman coins. I would love to have a wide variety!
you paid too much, IMO..but just a little over so you didn't do bad for the first time around. Late Roman Bronzes are pretty common, so try to get them for $10 and under (unless it is a rarer type). stainless
Thanks stainless! I am going to put them in one of those cardboard coin holders so I will write that on the coins! I would have thought ancient coins would go for tons of money...I guess maybe because there are so many of them?
I will definitely try to get them for under 10. I actually tried but was outbid and then bid again...I got a little too caught up in the bidding action on several of the coins I "won".
That, and supply and demand. They are easy to get, adn not that spectacular so no one really wants them, or at least for a lot of $$$ stainless
Do you think 17.50 is too much for the first one? It had so much detail I had bid 20 dollars and got it for 17.50. I was thinking because of all the detail and if it was real that it would go for higher.
yeah I agree, you could also get uncleaned constantine era coins for pretty cheap if your patient and dont mind cleaning them, theres a great pdf on nobleromancoins.com (its free)
I picked up a RB, not that type, but a common for almost half price: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=220291750364 for $17.50, look for something that is silver....You will be suprised what you can win. Just check here first before your next purchase. stainless

I am glad I came on here and asked. I will be more selective next time and watch for some deals. :hail: stainless, that seller on ebay seems pretty good with the 110% back guarantee. He/she has a lot of cool looking coins. I really like these old coins.
