Rolls of new cents

I'm a newb here but have been roll hunting for errors for a while now. I usually get my rolls from my main bank but the other day was in a smaller bank where I have a second account. I got 4 rolls of pennies. I opened the first roll to search and was initially disappointed. Nothing there but bright, shiny, 2005 d cents. Then I realized they were bright shiny straight run pennies. All 4 rolls were that way. So, I went back and got every roll they had. I have opened a roll or two and each roll has a single date although there is more than one date going back all the way to 1998. My questions are these: I do not believe this coins have ever been in circulation. How common is it to get coins like these from the bank? And, what percentage of high grade coins (66 or higher) could I expect to find? Does anyone have any real world experience with this?

rare this is why most people that snag rolls in the beginning send them for certification later on

and this is also why we hoard rolls also cause you never know the grade of the coins you make get

Probably someone turned in these rolls and they were getting put back into circulation. There maybe some varieties in these rolls. You might want to check out coppercoins/trail dies for a search for this year to see what has been found for the year/date? After opening about 5 rolls, you will get an idea what they might contain. There might be some wavysteps, trails or even doubled dies. If nothing special is found in the first five rolls, then you could trade with someone. Some do collect OBW rolls or sell them on eBay.

Thanks to all for the replies. I thought is was unusual. It is possible that some one had them and turned them in. A few of the 2003 actually had "03 D BU" written on the roll in black marker. But the teller told me the cents had come in a shipment from the car company so I don't know what to think about where they came from.

  7. While it is rare, I wouldn't bother keeping any of them. I was asking my local numismatist about some pennies from 1968 that were in almost perfect condition and he said they weren't really valuable and he could get me 2 rolls of 1968 pennies never been touched by human hands for around 2 bucks

There are some good years for errors. I think I'll check for some before I dump them.
