Bought a box of pennies yesterday at my bank and came home and started unwrapping them and noticed that these rolls were wrapped in mint error land! I already found two 1984's and I've only gone through two rolls. Whenever I find a P coin no matter if it's a key date or not I make sure to inspect it with my 16x loupe because Philly is so notorious for mint errors that it behoves me to check. I think it's a conspiracy, I think the mint error man takes a handful of coins from the big ol' bin of coins that were rejected and scatters them around the city for us to find! Anybody know how many coins get rejected roughly on a daily basis at the Mint(S)? I saw a picture of the metal bin that all the rejected coins get put into and there were tens of thousands of them in there.
I think somebody fed you a line. If there are 1984 coins in there your box is is all retreads from circulation. Anything out of the mint is going to be current date and the rejects are destroyed.
