this morning i went to the bank and asked if they had any rolls of halves and they said just a coulpe of days ago a woman came in and bought 300 dollars worth of them and they dont have any more so i got 10 dollars worth of pennys and i just got done searchin through them and all i found was a 1956 D wheat penny, a 1957 wheat penny and a 1972 S penny it was pretty fun looking through the rolls its the first time i have ever searched rolls and im definetly going to do it again Steve

no its not a proof and i was wondering how a coin could be a proof if it is in a roll of circulated coins? Steve
Okay, sorry, my mistake. I sometimes forget that not all S mintmarks are proofs. I think it was 75 and on that San Francisco made just proof coins. It is rare, but sometimes people find proof coins in rolls. I have read post about people finding them in rolls here. I think I have found one or two. They sometimes get broken out of the sets by someone that doesn't know what they are doing and get spent and put into circulation I guess. It is rare, but not unheard of. Phoenix

Philly Dog,the Republic of Ireland did exactly just that in 1986,when the Central Bank of Ireland had a lot of the Unc. sets left over.I think New Zealand did the same thing,but it was never publicised. Aidan.
Yes. All US coins with a S mintmark after 1975 are proofs I think. Even before 1975, they are still interesting to find. But after 1975, if it has an S mintmark, I'm pretty sure it is a proof. Still, I like finding and keep any S mintmark coins. Phoenix
