Hi everyone, The past three days I have had the pleasure of searching through a hoard of about 1500 Lincoln cents a friend had because she was trying to fill coin books for all her grandkids. Of course, these modern kids hardly have time to take notice of her efforts. Today was finish-up time, and I didn't find anything earth shattering as the coins were about 99% late memorials. However, in one of the last few stacks I did find a 1960D-1MM-023. Now the problem... do I give it to her when I give the rolled coins back to her? Yes or No? jeankay (oh, drat it, I guess I must let her know about the find, even if she doesn't really collect coins).
If it is in nice shape I'd ask her if you could buy it. If it's in poor condition I'd ask her to give it to you. After all you did a lot of work for her.
Victor, that would be much too easy and take all the fun and mystery out of 'the game'. I think she will probably give me the coin because she is such a dear friend. I think she said something about dimes, quarters and halves being next on her list for me to search... teeheeheeheehee... jeankay
Forgive me for asking, but I don't really concentrate on the Lincoln cents. What does the 1MM-023 indicate? Thanks.
Hi Klunky, Thanks for checking this out. The cent has a very lightly struck D under the bold D mint mark. The left edge of the letter is within, nearly centered, in the second D, with the outer curve of the D to the east and slightly south of the bold D. Hence the 1MM for one mint mark under/over another mint mark. The description states the bold mint mark was struck first then the lighter mint mark over that. www.coppercoins.com/diesearch.php?date=1960&thismint=d&thistype=mmom&page=2 As with a great number of error coins the 1960D-1MM-023 can be found on coppercoins.com. You might want to check out the site if you decide to find/keep the Lincoln cent errors.
Wow Jack... am I THAT transparent? Psychology 101 1/2. Learning more everyday and enjoying it over and over again. jeankay
Any person that receives 5 extra hi grade 1926-S Lincolns in a package by mistake, then sends them back to me ranks very high on my integrity and honesty scale. You have made a fan for life !!
Oh man! If I had known those coins were valuable then I would have kept them and either held them for ransom, or sold them here on this forum. Which, in either case, would likely get me in big trouble. I get in trouble very easily on my own, don't need anyone else's help... I too, appreciate your integrity. At least when I get a coin from you I know I will get the one you have pictured. That makes a great deal of help so I can get coins roughly in the same grade for my personal collection. Getting the highest quality of uncirculated wheat cents for those pages in my album has been my goal. But, after checking basic prices, I chickened out and decided to keep the collection at Fine to XF, and maybe AU, if I can find them in my price range. It seems to have worked out okay for the first two decades of wheats. However, I did get bu and proof coins for the thirties, forties and fifties. It is great working with all these nice people on CT. I have learned so much and am enjoying bouncing ideas back and forth with other collectors. Thanks! jeankay
i know someone who paid 33 bucks to send a 500$ coin back that came in by mistake. i call that person a fool
??? Spock, THAT was YOU???? Seriously, that might have caused me to ponder right from wrong for a few moments. The postage to return it to the seller should have been reimbursed. It has been my practice for a very long time that I let someone know when they made a mistake in these transactions. I only hope that the same person is understanding and believes me if it is necessary to notify them that a certain item has gone missing from an order. So far I have had good luck with this attitude and exchange between myself and sellers/dealers. (Except for a couple of knotheads on 'e--y'. They deserve a big kick in their backsides, shins or knees for the way they handled the situations.) Live and learn. jeankay
shhh not so loud other people might hear you my motto is no good deed goes unpunished and i cant stop doing good deeds
