On the subject of roll searching, I had a pleasant experience yesterday. I went to a bank and bought $60 worh of half dollars. Two of the rolls were $20 half dollar rolls which I hadn't seen before. When I opened them sixty-two coins were 1965-1969 and one was a 1963 half dollar. All of them were in really good shape. Some replaced others in my Kennedy circulated set, although none were new dates or mints. Pretty sweet.
I know this is off subject but thought I would share a recent experience. Was on vacation in Florida last week. First time I ever went metal detecting, which is funny because I had lived in Florida for 15 years until recently. Brought my six year old son with me, and he was instantly bored. Found a nice brown 1982-quarter and did my part to clean the beach of beer bottle tops, aluminum cans and cigarette wrappers. (Any day at the beach is a good day!) To appease my son (as I did not find any gold) we stopped at a local bank and bought a roll of half dollars. Found 3 1966 in the $10 roll - Gave one to my 6 year old son who was very excited and keeps running around telling everyone we robbed the bank :smile

Ever notice when someone finds great things in rolls from a bank they never will tell you where that bank is?
That is just not true. I found a number of silver half dollars a week ago. I got them from a bank in New York State! So, there!
Frank, You are so right I found some great coins last week in my bank here in Mesa AZ BRUCE "THE FRANK GROUP"
I have been through 2 boxes of cents lately. My finds, a dozen or so Canadian cents, two dozen or so wheaties, including a 1910 in the very last roll. A 2000 Wide AM cent, and a Type 2 Copper blank planchet. I also found my first 2 1982 zinc small date, suprisingly they were both AU.
OK so some post a state where some great or good coins have been found. However, my experience is that there are more than one bank in places like New York, California, Florida, etc. What I mean is if someone finds good finds from a bank they usually don't want to start a coin run on a bank and loose a possibility of more finds for themselves. I'd do the same thing if I ever found a bank that had been putting out some great finds I guess.
Carl, I would be more then happy to tell anyone where, and at what bank I find great stuff but I can't remember right now what bank I was at. will let everyone know when I remember.
After reading this thread I decided to stop at one of my banks today. I use 2 and I stopped at one this morning and asked if they had any half dollars. They had 3 rolls which I bought and checked them in my car. Nothing but clad. I take my $30 in halves and go to my other bank where I have my business account. I put the halves in the coin machine that is free to use and get my printed receipt for $30. Here's where it gets good.......I get to the counter, hand the teller my slip and she gives me $30. I ask, as I do everyday I go to my banks, "Do you get any half dollars?" Teller says let me check....No rolls but they have 3. Perfect...I'll take 'em....hand the teller $1.50 and tried not to act excited when I look in my hand and see a 1999 Kennedy half, 1968 Kennedy half and a 1957 Franklin. YEEHAW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'll spend the '99 and keep the other 2 gems. I got a '68 Kennedy half 2 days ago at one of the banks via the drive thru and about 2 weeks ago I got a '64 Kennedy half at the Post Office. It's easier to ask for half dollars than say "Hey...got any mercury dimes?". I tried that and the youngsters at the bank never even heard of a mercury dime. I'll stick to halves for now *~*Joey*~* ** staring at her '57 Franklin that cost her 50¢ **
I am terrible at taking pictures of coins because I never read the book when I got my digital camera (and it's a few years old now too) but here's my attempt to show the Franklin half that cost me 50¢. It's worn around the edge but everything is clearly readable. The reverse side has a beautiful Liberty Bell is also totally readable. It also doesn't have those brownish spots on it...that's my lousy picture taking. It's obviously circulated but heck..I never expected to get a Franklin at a bank simply by asking for half dollars. I'm happy when I get a 1968 Kennedy for 50¢.
The bank that I'm hoping I'm getting the silver certificates from is in PA. Nice finds. I wish my luck with currency wil be the same luck with my search for silver coins in rolls. Nice Franklin by the way.
I actually have a few silver certificates and some kind of $10 bill with red lettering or something. I remember stashing them all away many many years ago while I was still living in PA. I moved to FL in 1987 and they must be packed away somewhere but to date, I haven't found them. I guess it's possible I put them in a book or something to keep them flat and thrown the book away by mistake. It's unlikely though because I'm not a book reader by nature. I'll have to put some serious effort into finding my bills. *~*Joey*~*
The $10 might be worth quite a bit if it's the right year and condition. Still no word from the bank yet.
I couldn't believe what I found from the bank after picking up a few rolls last week. Meant to post this here. 2 rolls of 1943 steelies and over 200 wheats in rolls! View attachment 93189
There's a thread for roll searching results in the US Coins forum... Probably where most of these posts belong. http://www.cointalk.com/t10176/
