I'm doing some roll searching & here are a bunch of photos depicting what I am finding. If you have any similar finds, please post photos.

I bought a cigar box full of EF to MS wheat cents for 3 cents each. The owner had just thrown good looking wheats into this box and he put normal brown wheats elsewhere. Unfortunately, he had already sold all his boxes of brown wheats before I caught up to him. I’ve now sorted my box by date & mm. They are mostly AU coins distributed between 1950 - 1958. I can only dream about what might have been in the other boxes of brown wheat cents.

There are virtually no S mint coins. After sorting by date I find that there are between 50 & 200 of the P & D for all the years. I’m pretty sure that these are wheat cents from the guy’s cash register that he started putting aside in the 60s or 70s on the east coast. The guy is having his 86th birthday this month. After inspecting a couple of the years under the microscope, I got overwhelmed by all the die chips, RPMs and DDOs in the 1957-D cents. 37 of the 150 1957-D dated coins have DDO, RPM, and die chips. That is 25%. I’d say that more than half of the 37 include BIE and chips on the 1957 date area. Maybe you guys with more roll searching experience can tell me if this is in any way normal for 1957-D. I’ll just repeat the statistics; I’m finding that 1 out of 4 1957D coins has something interesting on it. The other dates have some neat RPMs and chips but nothing like the % found in these 1957-D (so far).

Here are some photos depicting a dozen of the 37 keepers. All 37 are pretty much like these and a bunch have a filled B in Liberty. Please let me know if 1957-D is known for these kind of finds.

    Very best regards,

    1953-D photos photos photos

There were only 40 1953-D so it was easy to inspect them quickly. It looks like 5 might be keepers & here are photos of some 53-Ds.

nice, but the 1st is not a DDO, it is strike/machine doubling.

These three were the only keepers in all the 1955 dated cents. It works out to about 2 % of the 1955 dated coins. No DDOs here.

What are you doing with the 'non' keepers?

I don't know. At first glance it does look like MDD, but look at the end of the top of the G. That definitely looks like a "split serif" effect. And it looks like the lower serif of the G may be split as well. I think this just might be a DDO.

½ the keepers were made in 1957

At long last, I have finished inspecting all of the cents. The keepers are now in 2x2 holders & following labels are finally printed.

This list indicates that about ½ the keepers were minted in 1957. Now I’ll probably put together a 3-ring dedicated to these Lincoln errors & varieties. About 1/3 are RD, 1/3 are RB and 1/3 are BN.

    Nice collection!

I went through a bunch this fall and found a lot of the ones you have. I still have about 6,000 to go through.

defect on the 6 of 1956

Can anyone identify the defect on the 6 of this 1956 date? I found 10 coins with this same defect. Is it post mint caused by some counting or rolling machine or is it a known die defect?

Wow! I am skipping the box of 60-'s and going straight to the 50's now. Maybe that box will have some too ?
