I have a roll of 1955s uncirculated wheats. They are in a plastic tube labeled 1955 S. The tube is discolored from age and seems to have shrunk. It's obvious they have not been disturbed in many years. When I got the lid off two were loose and I can see a third on top. The others are jammed in there. I want to sell it as unsearched, but I am willing to guarantee they are all uncirculated wheats. On ebay I saw prices from over $100 per roll to about $10 per roll. They look grade MS60 to MS63 which would be $42.50 per roll. There is some slight discoloration on the coins, but still mostly red and details are perfect. I heard this was the last year of the s mint wheat penny and it is a lower mintage than other coins of the era. I have also heard there were many error coins this year. BTW - should I sell them as unsearched or should I try to get them out? If I should get them out, then what is the best way?
They are not OBW so I'd remove them and put them in a proper tube. I doubt there are any "errors" in there but you may find some varieties. The best way to deal with these is to heat it with a hair dryer until they drop out.
There's the off chance that there would be a Triple S RPM in that particular date. It wouldn't be a waste of your time to look through them.
Thanks for the hair dryer trick. That worked great. I have 49 1955s uncirculated wheat pennies. Some do have tarnish spots, but over all very good and red. One is toned gold color which looks neat. I am thinking $30 shipped or $25 local. What do you guys think?
