Hey folks I have been coniving and conspiring with RLM tonight. We have a bunch of goodies and freebies from the show, and we want help with a contest for a YN that earns the prize. We need you folks to scheme up something that makes it fair to all YN's, keeps it coin related, and as "blind" as a contest can be. A strictly merit contest in other words. So let it rip, ideas, themes, etc etc. Email me or pm either one of us. We are looking for a way to share the LB experience, but want it kept to the YN's. Fair enough? Lets go !!!
we ... must ... block ... spock... from posting... in this thread..... (my effort to make it seem like a struggle to type ) otherwise he will claim to automaticaly win the prize
I like doing YN contests also, have done them on that "other" forum, but how many YN's are here? There can be nothing more satisfying than corrupting young impressionable minds with numismatic addictions.
Make it where the YN's have to have these qualifications to enter: #1: Must be under 18 years of age (of course ) #2: You must collect coins #3: You must live in PA #4: You must be putting together a set of Lincoln's, and your name needs to begin with a T. Lol, or maybe a guess the grade? A Cointalk Scavenger Hunt? Or, if you meet the qualifications above, you automatically win? Phoenix
And we have a WINNER......... well mabye not quite yet, just incase we have another YN from PA that collects Lincolns and their name starts with T.
I kind of like the scavenger hunt idea. Mabye have a list of coins or coin designers that they need to find pics and info on. Then of course there is the essay ( three page) on how they got into collecting and what they have acomplished.
Saw something similar on CU. It was an essay contest to tell about why they are intersted in coins. The only problem was there was no age brackets. An 8 or 9 y.o. really can't compete with an 17/8 y.o. as was shown with that contest. Lots of it's not fair, changing rules after contest, etc. Also, maybe getting another person to sign up and post on CT should be part of the entry process. Just a couple of thoughts. I commend u guys! I also have some things I would like to add to the prize if that's ok. LMK
I did a contest over on that "other" forum last December that was a writing contest. The prize was a deep dark wee secret and was not disclosed. Sure to the word, there were only two entrants, a then 13 year old from Canada and a 20 year old college student from Missouri. But honestly, it was a hard choice to pick the winner -they were both really good entries. The winner got a 1/20th oz Canadian coin, the runner up got a 1 Oz silver AGE or something. Then all the other little darlings were upset that they hadn't entered the contest.
Gonna be kinda tough to make all things equal when your age group runs from 5 to 18. 'Course you have the same problem with any merit based contest - not all entrants are equal in knowledge. So the only truly fair way for everybody that I have found is to make it a random drawing from all entrants. Throw all the names in a hat and draw one out.
how about a contest to do with CT names related to coins and coin collecting. ie Washington, Jefferson, Man if you find a Van Buren he should win
Thats about the best way, your making sense again Doug. With you as the leader here, you can do the draw if you would:hail:
Glad to see you made it home safe, RLM. Long day huh? Wow. I'll get to sorting out what all will get into this prize and we'll announce the official contest in the contest section. Let me dig around and see what I can add to it.
Count me in, I would be more that happy to make a donation to any YN out there. The YN's are the ones who will inherit our hobby. I'll gladly contibute a few coins!!!!!!
You know, you cointalkers are awesome folks !!! I just received some info from members that will contribute, and get this, we will have 5 winners and a grand prize winner !!!!!! I will announce the contest officially and give time to allow for contributions, than the fun shall begin. A blind enter/draw. Simple but fun !!
