Definitely a mystery, like a lot of things around here but I know one thing. This did not happen at the mint. Post Mint Damage. ;)

Intriguing . . . I'd never have thought I'd see them on modern issues, but this looks like lathe marks to me . . .

I wonder what the obverse looks like. Most concentric lathe lines stop at the devices, well any that I have seen.

Post mint damage being that the lines are over the images. My opinion of course. Looks cool though! Welcome to CT.

I think you have a coin that shows the sun rising in Arkansas. Lol

Very neat! Since the rings go over and into the relief design, IMO it is 99% damage to the struck coin. The only other thing that it could possibly be (cannot tell from the image) is a struck thru but I doubt it.

That is a strange one. The fact that there is no trace of any continued lines beyond the tree tops, is perplexing.

Is the groove raised? I'd have to agree with Burton currently as it does look like PMD from a coin wrapper.

Actually, it looks like the damage cuts across the duck's bill and trees. ;)

I am not quite convinced it is from a coin wrapper, that would be a REALLY small opening for a coin wrapper to leave.

It is probably damage - but the lathe mark hypothesis sounds plausible. I wouldn't be the one to say for sure, though. Interesting post, thanks.

Do you have some better photos that have a little more depth? I still lean towards PMD.
