Rim error on a 1972 P penny

    Would this be caused by a misaligned die. Found while going through some rolls of pennys. Its on both sides of the coin and on the left side.

    That looks more like a slight Finned Rim. A higher than normal pressure strike will cause the metal to appear that way.

    Thanks for the response paddman98. It's not a pretty penny but I'll put it in a 2x2 just because its different. also found a 72 D the same way Just not as bad .

    Paddyman is right about the excessive pressure. I think your coin was struck with a tilted die which will cause finning on just one side of the coin.
