Hi everybody. I've been a member of this forum for a while now, so I thought I'd ask for some advice. I have a significant collection of Morgan and Peace dollars that I have collected over the years, and this weekend I started to cull out some of them. I ended up with about 20-25 silver dollars that have some form of rim ding or dent. either on the obverse or reverse. First question, should I try to sell them to my friendly neighborhood dealer, and second how much would he discount the buy price? By the way, they're mostly common dates and a few semi-key dates. Or should I just hang on to them and continue to collect the semi-key and key dates? Any suggestions or thoughts would be most appreciated. Thanks.

Why don't you make a list of dates and desired price and offer them up on here for sale? I am sure somebody would be interested in some if not all!

I think you shoudl do what you want to do and not be swayed by someone else's opinion. That said, if you're asking the question it seems to me that these rim dings bother you, and that is unlikely to lessen over time. IIWY, I'd sell off the ones you don't like to buy more you do like. As far as their reduced value because of the rim dings, I cannot provide you any help other than to say the local neighborhood coin store is unlikely to give you the best deal on the coins versus other methods although you are likely to get cash much quicker. Take care...Mike

The amount that the rim dings would discount buy prices depends on the severity of the dings, and how badly they detract from the eye appeal of a coin. Maybe you could post a few pictures on here and let some member of the board provide insight about the dings on the Morgans.
