There's a hit on the rim / edge of my token at 9 o'clock and distortions all around, but I'm unsure how NGC would look at it. The token in question is a quite rare 1932 Peru 10 Soles Token (# Tn6). It's a small-ish token at 24.2mm which may go against the grade-ability of it since smaller coins are less subject to hits; but maybe the rarity also gives it some leeway, especially since it was issued to be used and not as a collectible. Also, some of the gold plating is worn off and there may be some surface hairlines - maybe that'll be grounds for a details grade in and of itself. The edge shows some wear of the gold plating to reveal the silver beneath, which has since tarnished to a deep charcoal color. As a baseline question... would a hit such as this on a 1931 Buffalo nickel warrant a Details grade by NGC? Thanks in advance!
That rim bump is pretty minor, and should not preclude a grade. The surface hairlines seem consistent with circulation. I don't see any reason why this wouldn't grade.
This one came back as an INELIGIBLE TYPE by NGC. But why?? There was no specific reason given. What's more is that I have another one that was slabbed by NGC that was on a 2017 submission. I think NGC made a mistake thinking that this isn't recognized even though they have a census and a details page for it. And, I don't think that this is a counterfeit either. When that happens, they'll body bag it and explicitly state that it's counterfeit, or that they can't determine the coin's authenticity. I'll have to send this back to NGC, too.
I don't know what's up with NGC and their "ineligible type" stuff lately. ALL THREE of my coins on my last submission came back that way. Three out of three. Granted, these were all medieval hammered coins, so a bit esoteric, but they put a Friedberg number on the Gelderland florin, so they obviously knew what it was. Both that and the other gold piece had been cracked out of PCGS "details" slabs. Their giving "ineligible type" for a type they've already slabbed before and have census data on is not only bizarre, but it would make me angry, too. Then again, my tolerance for NGC is at a rather low point right now, so take some of the grumbling with a grain of salt. I send all of my non-ancient stuff to PCGS. And get TrueView images with the grading. Of course that hasn't been a totally frustration-free exercise, either (with TPGs, it never is), but I am a confessed "drinker of the Kool-Aid" when it comes to PCGS. I'll use NGC for Ancients. I'm pretty much done using them for everything else (maybe not forever, but at least for the foreseeable future).
Yeah, I called them a couple days ago and the rep told me that it only says INELIGIBLE TYPE on their end. There's no further information on their end for some odd reason.
