    those prices......

Maybe i am spoilt because i have been able to find the bust coins I want at pretty fair prices. But looking at his listings my feeling is that he is pricing is 'premium' to say the least.

Example: 1824 Quarter ANACS VG 8 bought off another major bust dealer. R. Uhrichs prices on the few he has at 30-50% above what I paid (and his are not encapsulated).

As i said, nice coins, but oh....expensive!

Hi Eduard, just to clarify things for me, what do you consider (for you ) a fair and reasonable price for a coin, as compared to some sort of a benchmark (ie, numismedia, an average of 'prices realized' at auctions, Coin World, Redbook, etc)?

There's an early copper dealer that I encounter at medium and large shows in the DC/Baltimore area.
I stay away from him because he doesn't get his coins slabbed (remember, I do a type set, so I don't have the time to study in depth each issue).
And he has the reputation in the trade of overgrading and charging for his grade.
That's similar to grading correctly but overcharging.

It'll take time but eventually when their sales slow they'll get the idea (maybe).

Lots of dealers have premium prices. The key is finding the ones that also have the premium coins. ;)

    Interesting.
I now use Heritage archives and Numismedia as a point of reference for what I should be paying for a given coin. The dealers, including Rich U, often seem to proice significantly over these references, at least for the coins I am looking for.

That would not be so bad if the coins were really premium. BUT, what I have seen and experienced on more than a few occasions is that the dealer bought the particular coin from an an Auction house in the first place, and then resold it a (hefty) premium.
As a consequence, tend to no longer buy from dealers, but turn directly to the auction houses.

Very true. That is what I have encountered also. What I do find is that in some cases the dealers coin is nicer than is what is being auctioned off. I looked through the coins on the site and some of the prices are very high and some are reasonable for the condition of the coin. Almost like the nicer the coin the higher the premium becomes. Just my opinion.
