Yesterday I went to the comic book store as I normally do once a month and the owners of course know me after several years. At times I get wheat backs and slick buffalos in change from other store purchases and when I goto pay for my comics I usually use them as change at the comic store only, hoping to get someone to collect. Well after all the years of going the guy I normally do transactions with said "your the one who gives me old coins in change right?", of course I said yes, well as my change he gave me the 1946 silver quarter. He held it for me for 2 weeks now waiting for me to pick up my comics. So I walked out with my comics and a silver quarter just because I sometimes spend old junk coins:hail:. I detest wheat backs.
Cause there is billions of them, everyone has them & I find the design boring, like most of todays coins.
But the break up the monotony. Plus, I like looking at a nice coins struck in high relief, don't you? Put that "boring" wheat cent next to one of today's cents and see how low our coinage has fallen.
Oh for sure. Heck I miss the old washingtons compared to todays flat versions. I was even rubbing this silver quarter cause I always liked silver washington reliefs. Oh and I like the shield reverse more then the wheatback.
Yeah, I have really started to appreciate old washington's more. IDK if that is because I have been away from them long enough, or my expectations of US coinage has fallen to all time lows since the state quarters began, but I definitely love high relief washingtons nowadays.
Same, and I can see the point with lincolns too but most here know I have posted before that I dont care for wheatbacks or Morgans just because there is zillions of them, everyone has them and I get tired of seeing them. Heck there is many ancients I see all the time I am sick of too.
That is a fantastic story and I must say that it is a huge relief to finally read an interesting thread on this forum that is actually coin related. So are you going to sell it or keep it?
Cool story and coin. Funny thing is, if the comic book goes up in value which most of them surprisingly are. You can always sell them to buy more coins. Its like an endless cycle.
