Got a free issue of Coinworld today in the mail.

Pros: The magazine is well formated, lots of colors in it. A few decent articles.

Cons: Way too many ads. Out of the 191 pages, over 100 of them were ads.

I like the magazine too but yes, alot of ads. Coinage is the same way, and thinner.

If I were unfamiliar and relying on this "review", it is safe to say that I would be staying unfamiliar. Saying only that CoinWorld is "well formated", in color, and has articles with lots of ads tells us nothing, Tim.

Perhaps, if you can be so bothered, you could tell us at least something about the articles and overall content?

A relative gave my a years subscription to coin world 2 years ago, and I enjoyed it.
While it is true that they have lots of advertisements, I find that I enjoy the content as well. There are often well-written articles about the history of a specific rare coin, a collection, or something else. I liked the themes of each issue they came out with each month, whether it be the medals and history of a certain US fort, or the history and recovery of coins from a massive shipwreck in the 18th century. I also like to read the price guide, just to get s rough idea of what the values of some of my coins are, as they update it each issue. I also enjoy their "how to grade" series, where they will post the grades and full detailed descriptions of what to look for in a certain denomination.

Every magazine there is has lots of ads, every one. If it was not for the ads the magazine could not survive.

True, but my peeve was ads in between the price guides.

I get CW magazine. There may be an ad or two on most pages, but there are not over 100 pages of just ads. Nothing in this world will please Detecto, and he will exaggerate greatly to possibly improve his chances of converting others to his POV.

Well you should ignore the price guide anyway. Never once have I seen a price listed their guide that was not too high, and often way too high.

This was counting all the full page ads. Hang on one moment.

If you want me to "hang on one moment" in order for you to prove your allegation. please be sure to post a pic of every page, not just your count.

Does this mean that your new site will have no advertisement to disturb the flow?

May I ask if you have PAID for a subscription? If not, you have no right or reason to complain or even have a "peeve". The fact that you're bothered by ads "in between the price guides" tells us that you plan on using it, but instead of simply being grateful for getting it free, you're publicly complaining that it is not perfect. There really is no pleasing you, is there?

On the other hand, considering that you will likely think many of the advertisers charging too much, this may actually be a win-win; free magazine, free price guide, and over "100 pages" of dealers to complain about.

the value guid prices are high because it helps the ads sell i habe a subscrption and will be getting another next year the articles are good. I actualy like some of the ads they help me identify coins and allow me to see coins that i will never own.

The best part of the subscrption is the online access and digital content you can read an archive of past issues from years ago . the coinworld nexts flash thing is cool it even has trivia and questions you can answer to see how much you know about certain coins .

you can also print pages from the digital editions for photograde or values ect

    I bought some Numismatic Scrapbook
magazines from the 60's thinking they'd be
like the one's I starting reading in 1974.
They weren't even close. Those suckers
    had to be 99% advertisments.

I tore out 14 pages of double sided ads. That's 28 pages.
I then counted all the single sided pages, there were 60 pages.
I then counted all the 1/4, 1/3, and 1/2 page ads. It totaled to 25.

All in all 113 pages if you cut all the ads out and stuck them together. There is a total of 194 pages if you count both cover and back.

That's over 58% of the magazine used for advertising.

Why can't they place the ads in the front or back like some? Putting a banner in the middle of the article interrupts the fluidity of it and makes it rather annoying.

I have subscribed to CW for many years. You have to kind of ignore the ads and read the rest of it. I like the articles by Bowers and some others on VAMS. Also they do good articles on fake coins. Then there is always a listing of coin shows. Yes the coin values price guide is very high. Just skip over the ads.
