Bought it from my coin dealer who could care less about toning. I on the other hand think that a nicely toned coin is one of the coolest things about collecting.
Very nice toning, I love the hot red. As a premium I dont know, infact I would like to know myself. And some people consider beautiful toning on examples such as this as "tarnish", but personally I adore toning. I certainly would pay a premium, but we have to wait for the experts to determine extra value(if any)
I see lots of hairlines.. My opinion is that the coin is cleaned and the toning is a result of the cleaning or is artificial. The colors themselves are not a representation of natural toning either.
The colors look interesting. But if this were sent in for grading I think it would come back questionable color aka artificial.
I think it is AT. I also agree with Greg--it was a cleaned and then artificially toned coin. One tends to see those more vivid colors on "o" mint Morgans, due to the humid storage conditions, and textile toning. It looks as if they're trying to re create that look, artificially.
This is my 98o, that has a red-rainbow on the reverse. Note that the toning is PROGRESSIVE--from light to deeper coloration. This one is in a PCGS slab as a MS 64. Definitely more market acceptable, and exhibits the vivid colors of the New Orleans humidity in storage.
