I am in the process of updating the tags for my collection. I am looking to see if anyone has a reference for the coin below, Philip I, Syria, S&P, 8 Assaria. Common to most eyes, but the reverse is retrograde. I have only found two examples in the record of this rare type, but with right facing busts. I had always intended to get a copy of McAlee, but was always on the back burner. Anyone have a reference for this:

Yep. Curtis is definitely 'the bomb' but I dont think he is on CT so that's why I posted to Forum. Cross posting those messages:

McAlee 995(c) is referred to Dorney 1998.

McAlee 995c, citing (without picture) what I presume is your actual coin: Dorney 45, 1998, 148 ("Ex.Rare").

McAlee 995a is a similar coin in his own collection, but with Medusahead on the emperor's cuirass, and from a different rev. die. So this error (mirror-image rev. die) was made at least twice.

Yes, well, it was in my sales catalog #45, 1998, lot 148, which I assume is where McAlee picked up the data. In that lot description I referenced another example in a Berk sale, #103, lot 628, so there are possibly two examples known or more. I no longer have those catalogs, maybe Curtis can look and see if there was a reference listed there. Anyway, the poor coin was never sold, so I just kept it!

Sorry Ken ... all I have is this crappy ol' right facing example (*sigh*)

Damn you, right-facing example!! => why can't you be more like Ken's example?!!

Wha? ... enough of your back-talk!! ... we'll talk later, when we get home!!
