What do you think? Is it restrike? Here are a few Polish 10 groszy coins, dated 2000, but they look like a restrikes: more fingers in eagle`s legs, double wings (with shadows) and 1 hidden behind 2 in date. I`m a happy owner of 4 pcs, but I know the owner of the 5th.
Tom,it isn't a restrike. You will always get die variations,& Polish coins (including 10 Groszy coins) are no exceptions. Aidan.
OK, I`m not an expert. So, how do you bite this? How to classify it? 20 groszy 2001 with strange obverse.
Okay, this question is coming from someone with zero knowledge of Polish coins. Exactly what makes the 2001 20 groszy look "strange" to an expert?
Tom,the only thing that is strange about that 20 Groszy is the grey spot in the area of the '2' in the date.It would be just a normal circulation coin otherwise. Aidan.
Roy, please look at the picture below and compare the obverse with my 20 groszy coin. The design should be the same, but I`m sure you`ll notice the additional circle outside the round inscription. It is normal during the coin production that the die is wearing out, but in this case we have coin with missing parts of the picture. And then Aidan can say we have got a die variety. But if we have more details on the picture? However, the knowledge about varietes in Polish coinage is none. Don`t you think it`s too bad? Best regards Tom
Tom,I think this outer circle is noted in the Polish chapter of the 21st Century Krause catalogue (which has a red cover). If you haven't got that book, you can buy it here; www.amazon.com or here; www.krausebooks.com .Apart from the circle,it is of the basic type that has been issued since 1990. Aidan.
