By my understanding they made two versions of this coin. One was gold plated, the other was struck in solid 8KT Gold.

Need help figuring out if this is plated or solid. Weight is .54 grams.

If solid, its worth about $8.00. I paid $5 for it.

    Plated would be my guess.

I've seen these plated, 8 kt, 22 kt, and 24 kt. Since they are privately made they can be made any way the company wants. The only way to really know anything about it would be to do a specific gravity test on it.

I said plated in this case because of that one close-up pic. The circled area, you can see what looks like base metal where that small cut is.

If I have time this afternoon I will go over to a friends house that has a acid kit for gold and see what it says.

Have you tried the "ring test"?

That said, specific gravity (weight and volume) should give you the answer, but will take some specialized equipment to derive.

You could also use the old "bite test" -- but please check with your dentist first. :)
