Hi all! I have a couple thousand wheat pennies to sift through. I’m new and have quickly found most years and “errors” aren’t actually true errors or with age alone worth much. Curious to hear if anyone has anything specific I should be keeping my eye out for regarding wheat pennies?

If you wanted a comprehensive resource, I would suggest buying Vol I of the Cherrypickers guide. It covers cents, and would list all known varieties. You can get an older copy very cheap.

Buy this book. Filled with all kinds of basic info about US Coins. Just about every experienced collector on this site had one early in their collecting career. best $10-15 you'll ever spend on this hobby

Both are also common with libraries. If yours doesn't have it, ask for it with interlibrary loan. That way you can get it, use it, see how you feel about it, for free.

To be honest, just dedicate a good couple of hours to look at the coins and take out the ones with nice shine or luster. Take out anything with an S, take out any 1943 penny, and take out any penny before 1940. The rest, you can just resell or something. Then the valuable ones are basically any 20's, 10's, or 09 with an S, 1931 s, 1922 no d, 1922 d, 1909, 1909 vdb, 1909 s, 1909 s vdb, 1914 d, and that's kind of it. Remember to wear latex gloves and touch the coins only by the rim, not on the surface. If you have any more specific questions, ask us, or search it up on the good old Google. pcgs.com/coinfacts is a good resource as well.
