Vaughn Coins is an ancients dealer whom I met at a recent show. Does anyone have any history with this dealer and or can anyone give me thoughts? I see nothing wrong but I tend to be very cautious about online dealings. PS- Looking into coinage of the Hmong Civilization and the conflict against Ghengis Khan I could use some help there too! Thanks
Hmong coinage will be spread out amongst other books. Michiner might be your best bet for what he has, probably Non-Islamic State edition. There are some probable Hmong coins list in Siamese coins, but not definite. Have never bought from Vaughn but see nothing to raise alarms about. What information about Ghengis Khan are you looking for? Coins issued by those who opposed him, siege coinage, what? Most people what coins OF Ghengis.
The Hmong fought Ghengis Khan? I must have missed that. I wouldn't have any other suggestions than there is a book about seige coinage out there, but do not know if it has theirs. I will do some research. I just read at this website: http://mong.us.com/#Mong_c the Mong you are referring to were XiongNu. The XiongNu are the term the ancient Chinese used for what we call the Huns. The mongols nad Huns have a long history, with basically the Mongols pushing the huns out of their homeland, who in turn pushed out the Kushans starting the domino of Central Asian displacement from turn of the millenia to the 8th century. Is that what you are referring to?
So I'm looking into Hmong because a friend of mine, his anceint ancestors are Homong and he asked me about it.
The Hmong, aka the Miao people are a minority in southeastern China, in the modern province of Yunnan. In the 1200s CE the Hmong/Miao inhabited the state of Dali. The kingdom of Dali was conquered by the Mongols in 1253 CE
I believe the Hmong the OP is referring to are the natives of modern Yunnan province in China, back then known as the kingdom of Dali. The Hmong were conquered in 1253.
