I'm not sure if posting Vignettes is OK rather then notes,I'm going to try one and let me know if it is acceptable for posting in this format. "Female Caduceus & Winged Wheel" Female figure engraved in1916 by Mr. Frauz at the time employed by Republic Banknote Company which merged with Security Banknote Company in 1942.The female vignette has an original die crack.
Walter Frauz was employed at the Republic BN Company as early as 1905. He is credited with over 200 engraved subjects, including at least 30 small heads and subjects used for bond coupons. Much of his work was used by the Security Banknote Company after they purchased the Republic Bank Note Company in 1942. He is also credited with engraving the " Haile Selassie" portriat on the Ethiopia $1-$500 notes. The vignett you posted is called "Female Caduceus & Winged Wheel" and is featured on the $500 Corporate Bonds of Aldred Investment Trust shareholder cp. deb. (1927) and General Vending Corp. 6%, 1st mort. convert, cp.bd. (1917) It is a great vignett and I wish it were on a banknote! RickieB
"Female Caduceus & Winged Wheel" Wow Rickie you know quite alot about engravings & banknotes, seeing that this was never used on a banknote is it OK to post others ? "Female Caduceus & Wihged Wheel"

Bank Note Engravings Here are a couple of others without description, other then I Know they are Am. Bank Note Co. Engravings. Maybe you can fill us in on details Rickie ?
Hummmm what a challenge Conner. To start with the "Buffalo" is known as Pablo and was also engraved by Marcus Baldwin and can be found on the $10 USN from Fr#114 thru Fr# 122 Here is the note: The Street Car Vignette can be work performed by one of two individuals, I am not 100% sure on this and I am currently researching these vignettes you displayed. #1 Possibility for Street Car Vignette: William J. Brown He was known as a picture engraver and was employeed by the ABN Co as early as 1882 and engraved until 1920. His Vignette's are called "Trolley Car" and "Trolley Car Street Scene" both shown on Stock Certificates. #2 Possibility for Street Car Vignette: Angelo Delnoce he was the son of Luigi (Louis) Delnoce. On Sept 27, 1893 the (New York) Evening World reported the arrest od Delnoce for the counterfieting of bank notes of Argentina. He has a Vignette called Motor Cars that reside on some Corporate Bonds and Stock Certificates. I am working on the others..LOL Am I getting paid for this?? RickieB
ROTFL - Connor, Can you tell us a little about why are you posting different engravings? Is it just to learn more or do you collect prints or a desire to learn more? Love the shots so I hope I am not discouraging you by asking - was just wondering.
Rickie,I have several sets of Am.Bank Note Co vignettes, some with attributes on the back & others without.I hope you don't think I am sending you on a wild goose chase,I really appreciate your time & effort in investigating the origin of these engravings. I will stop over loading you with questions about them ,Thanks again for the great info you provided all of us with. Connor
I purchaced several sets of Am.Bank note co. vignettes some with attributes on back and other without.Yes, I collect vignettes & like to know about the engravers.I HAVE A GOOD BOOK CALL "The Engravers Line" with a few Intaglio vignette print,& another book The American Bank Note Company that was helpful in the history of the engravers working for them. I also collect all types of paper (banknotes, obsoletes, fractional currency & US coins. Thank for the help RickieB your knowlege of Banknotes seems endless.
While I cannot speak for RickieB - I I would bet he doesn't mind as this is one area I am certain he is very passionate about. If he hasn't already I am sure he could recommend some other books for you to collect that will help with your interests. I don't think either one of us thought it was a wild goose chase so again I stand by please do not be discouraged by the question. It's always nice to learn more about what others collect and why. Thanks for sharing!!! Darryl
Indeed it is a good book. Look on page #102 and you will see the Street Car Vignette by Delnoce.... Then look at pg 61 for William J. Browns vignett that is so so close to what you posted. This is where I also get some of my info.... Pablo can be found on pg 40 Seems like we share a similar interest! So how's your paper money collection? Any images or links? RickieB
Rickie, yes on page 40 THE Pablo Buffalo is the Intaglio Print I have, also the page 61 Trolley Cars look very similar to the one I have. The Bison is Intaglio printed on vellum paper from original die in brown & green w/very high embossing almost worth framing but I woun't break up the set for that. The attributes you gave me I'm going to print on index cards for reference & keep w/the vignette for reference. You have been a lot of help. I'm going to post a few notes to get back on track. Thanks Again
these vingettes are awsome me? i prefer the notes the vingettes sit on lol but thats me. I do love looking at all the images though. It really is the next best thing when you cant buy the note
if you dont care about the note being high quality, a buffalo note can easily be obtained for less then $200. same with the $5 indian they are out there, and since everybody wants the CHCU notes.. the lesser quality notes can go for lots less!
