Hi folks. I am an 8th grade US History teacher here in Tampa, Florida. While I enjoy sharing replica coins from the Colonial Period with my students (both as a show-and-tell but also as a lesson in economics), I also enjoy collecting these replicas. Recently I was able to purchase bags of unnamed replica coins. Supposedly they range from Roman-era (pre-Christ) to Colonial Period coins (as late as the 1740s). If I were able to get some GOOD pix of these coins, front and back, what are the odds of getting some decent guesses as to what they are supposed to be? Sadly, the coins are all pewter...so even if they were meant to be "gold", you cannot tell. Thanks for reading. If you can help, I'll take pix in the morning and get them posted. Thank you again so much!
The greatest minds in numismatica congregate here. But if they don't respond, I'll at least take a shot.
Excellent. I have to mow the lawn but I'll try to take some decent pix later...if that does not work, then I'll try and scan them in (front and back) on the scanner. Thanks all.
Since replica coins generally are of fairly well known issues,I'm going to guess that we can ID anything you've got.In fact,we MIGHT even have a few of the originals for comparison...
I have faith that the collective genious of this forum can probably tackle anything you throw at it, Ive never seen a coin that hasnt been identified and had its unique history and details shared when asked.
