There was a thread about this topic about 3 years ago, but it didn't reach any conclusion. If a PCGS slab is damaged (say scratched or chipped) can you send it to them to have the slab replaced with the same label and grading as the original, just for the purposes of having a case that's in perfect condition?

Failing that, what is your experience with acrylic polish to remove light scratches from the window part of a slab?

    Thanks.
Do you know how much they charge?

Do they always guarantee to provide the same grade as on the original slab? Do you know if the serial number is the same on the new slab?

    Leadfoot there is no spoon

    That is incorrect.

If there is a small problem with the slab, you can have it reholdered. The service is $5 per coin provided the coin value is less than $20k and you ship it to them. It is $10 at a show. See the details here: http://www.pcgs.com/grading_list.chtml

I'm not sure about the OP's other question relative to certification number, but my guess is that it will remain unchanged but the label will be new. I'd call PCGS Customer Service @ 800-447-8848, and ask.

    Hope this helps...Mike

It's amazing how you call it incorrect and then go on to describe the very thing I have said about reholdering.

Interesting that you have to pay to join their "club" to submit anything. That adds a minimum of $49.95 to the price. I guess if I'm going to do this, I should submit all my grading at the same time (or at least during a single year).

Obviously, this is biased toward people who have a lot of submissions.

Why do you care....it is the coin that counts.

Certain coins (anything worth more than about $200 that isn't in original US Mint packaging) I would buy only if certified from one of the top grading services. If nothing else, it provides a guarantee that the coin is genuine.

I have very little interest in slabbing my own coins, but I might do so if I wanted to sell them.
