Anybody use Renaissance Wax for coins? What you say about that? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renaissance_Wax
Not True! A lot copper and bronze items which it finds with metal detector must protect them with wax.
I used to put wax on coins that I had cleaned. Sometimes it make some details more visible, and may protect the coin a bit. I tended to put it on to thick...go very thin.
Dug coins are frequently corroded and have to be treated for bronze disease. In that case, renwax is useful to seal the coin, but only after it's been properly cleaned of all dirt. Simply putting wax on the dirt just makes more of a mess. If the dirt has been removed and the coin has a decent patina, I don't believe there's any need for wax - the patina is protection enough.
