I just busted this giant (24.95 grams, 33mm, and over 7 feet tall in real life;) out of his plastic NGC coffin and wanted to share:)

"Maximinus AE sestertius. Struck March 235 - January 236 AD [anyone know how this specific date is derived?]
IMP MAXIMINVS PIVS AVG Laureate and draped bust right. / PAX AVGVSTI SC, Pax standing with olive branch. RIC 58."

That's a real beauty. I think everyone likes these big sestertii. This one has really good detail.

Thanks for all of the kind replies about the big green guy:) I picked him up for $200 after a little haggling. Good price? What do you think?

Doug, I will post the NGC grade in a while to give anyone else that wants to give a guess on price:)

For anyone that would like to guess NGC grade:
    http://www.ngccoin.com/ancients/grading.aspx
NGC graded this coin between G-MS like "normal".
    Then "graded" the Strike _/5
    and the Surface _/5.

If only I had an idea of what should be normal. Is a perfectly even flat strike a MS with 1 for strike or a Fine with a higher number since the coin had already been taken to task for the lack of head and wreath detail?

    Ch VF, 4/5, 4/5

They've grossly overgraded everything I've seen in their plastic lately.

I haven't a clue, but the conversion rate is about $1.66 to the pound. Seems legit...

    Here is the NGC results:)

I would be at VF+ myself. The reason, I see VF wear on the high points. The patina is amazing, and even more so in hand! I am happy!:D As the old adage says: "buy the coin, not the holder". I am liking my coin:)
