Please post your coins from Regensburg....I will start with second smallest AV coin ever made. AV 1/32 Dukat ND circa 1770 9mm. 0.11 grams obv. Crossed Keys=Regensburg Arms rev. Imperial Double Headed Eagle of the Habsburgs Ruler: Josef II Holy Roman Emperor
Here is another... AV Dukat ND 3.48g./22mm. obv. City View rev. Habsburg Double Headed Eagle Ruler: Holy Roman Emperor Franz II 1792-1805 Mintmaster: Georg Christoph Busch(This guy really earned his paycheck!
Charles VII Albert (1742-1745). Germany. City of Regensburg. AR Thaler ND (ND (1742). 44mm. Scarce piece, 800 minted. Obv. Laureate and armored bust of Karl VII to right. Rev: View of the city seen from the North. DAV-2614. Beckenberg 6173. Mint under mintmaster J.C. Busch (but with an obverse die made under his predecessor, J.M. Federer), and with a reverse die by C. D. Oexlein. PCGS AU-53.
Karl VII had a distinctive nose/ like William III of Orange. That is a beautifull Thaler/ sometimes I am tempted to start a collection of these.... Regengsburg/Basel/Transylvania/Nurnberg produced really spectacular AR/AV coinages.
I visited Regensburg a couple of years ago and much of the landscape (and bridge) is intact as depicted on the coinage.
A few weeks ago, the Federal Republic of Germany issued a new €100 gold coin in its Unesco World Heritage series. The 2016 piece is dedicated to Regensburg - the Old Town and the Stadtamhof quarter. This design, by Friedrich Brenner, won the contest. Interestingly, the second prize went to Heinz Hoyer. He picked Merian's 17th century city view as the main feature of his design ... Christian
Here is my best Regensburg coin... AV 3 Dukaten ND 10.46g. 28mm. Struck for Franz I 1745-65 Holy Roman Emperor Imperial City of Regensburg obv. Kaiser Franz I rev. City View Mintmaster Johann Christoph Busch/engraver JL Oenlein This coin makes the "modern versions" look plain drab!
Zohar/ you really got some beautifull thalers. Kunker had an auction of mining thalers/ many Double/triple/Quadruple up to ten thalers...amazing huge coins. Sadly the ten thalers are for you, as the ten dukaten....VEEERRY $. I only have one 10 Zecchini Bologna/ Pope Pius VI 1787 in fast stempelglanz.
Thanks panzerman. I appreciate it. I have their two catalogs which are probably the best reference book for the multiple mining pieces. I was very close to buying a 2 and 3 Taler but figured I am better focusing on my core set. My sole mining piece is this one below. That's a monster of a coin. I saw one in lot viewing at Stacks which had some mounting issues but still great. Do you have a gold Hamburg Bankportugaleser? That is an amazing piece to own as well.
No, wish I did! Yours has neat design, like I have said over and over....our modern era mints either have no taste/ or they cannot find skilled engravers/mintmasters to produce beautifull coins, kinda sad. My all time favorites are the Transylvanian Thalers/Dukats from 1570-1689.
Thats quite the coin, beautifull workmanship! The AV one is magnificent. Here is my dream coin/ Basel 1741 20 Dukaten 70g.
I saw this coin at lot viewing. Not sure why it sold for $5.5K solely based on toning as quality wise, they do come up nice. You will find another if you keep looking! I bought a monster for my core set that I will post later.
