Red penny with silver outlines

    Hi I have a question I have a 1982 penny it's red with no sign of being circulated very much but around the rim it's silver where the Zink is exposed.is this very thin coating of copper or something would this be some kind of error or common thanks and sorry no pics

    Without photos, you're not likely to get much help other than speculation. It sounds to me like it is post-mint damage (PMD).

    Exposed copper revealing the inner zinc is most likely damage.

    Rubbed on something rough and flat like a stone.
    It's a spender and don't get it wet.
