I was just trying to get some opinions on what would be more accurate- Coin World when they put values in( I believe monthly?) or a 2013 Red Book. I am trying to decide if I want to buy a Red Book or just go by Coin World

    Thanks!

My two cents worth on this question is: Neither. Both have publishing deadlines earlier than yesterday. Learn to search auction sites for completed auctions and use those values in making a decision of value for yourself.

You can set up an account at Heritage and Teletrade for free to get access to their completed auction data. eBay you can search for free as well.

I agree, realized auctions are the true way to figure out values, don't go by a book/magazine

Red Book, and Coin world are idealized prices--the best possible outcomes, for average examples of that particular grade. Exemplary coins, toned coins, ultra gems, and others may be much more expensive. Likewise, poor examples in grade may not sell for even close to those values. See what actually sells for better information. When I buy a coin, I try to look at past prices actually received.
