Red bood vs. blue book

When I started collecting a few months ago someone sold me a blue book for pricing. I later found out from a dealer that it is meant for wholesalers. I still don't have a red bood (for retailers, right?) so I haven't compared the two.
When I bid on ebay, I am finding that the prices of coins are selling pretty close to the blue book values. I know that grading is the critical aspect of buying so I was just wondering if it makes such a big difference which book is used for beginning my research.
By the way....can someone tell me how to get my profile image to show up on my posts? I'm pretty good at missing the obvious when reading instructions.:eek:dd: Sorry about the misspelled title.

The Red Book is a must!! That said, when bidding on ebay there are a few things to keep in mind.

Coins on ebay sell for too much money! Try to place only one bid! Basically you will pay too much if you aren't careful. Best thing to do is think of the top amount you are willing to pay and try not to deviate from that amount. Stick to your guns!! Do not get caught up in a bidding war, ever!

There is a website that has some prices available, I think it's called numismedia dot com. Maybe someone will come along and correct me on that.

When bidding on ebay take your time!!! The coins most ppl buy are still gonna be there, they aren't going anywhere. Even if the one you want gets sold, there will be another one to take it's place.

I have paid way too much more than a few times and to make sure you don't do the same, take your time. Research, research and research some more!!
