Can anyone recommend a local dealer to looks at some coins for me, and maybe also for me to buy from? I am in the Tacoma/Olympia area and work in Gig Harbor (all in Washington State). I have a couple of Morgans that I would like a first-hand opinion on (and NOT the show where I bought two of them!). Would also like to be able to pick up junk silver reasonably if possible. So...any reputable and honest coins shops around? Thanks! I tried searching but couldn't come up with a search term that gave what I am looking for. Rob
Hey I lived in Lakewood from 2009 - 2013. I liked Tacoma Coin and Stamp. I bought "impaired" ASEs for $1 - $1.50 over spot and some nice raw Peace dollars there - for good prices. I had good experiences with the staff and they never gave me any grief for wandering around their store, looking at their stuff. Now, I always bought something when I went in... Think his name is Greg, but he's prior Air Force and always took good care of me. He would point out things to look for when I was considering coins for my collection and I think just generally helped me.
Hi Teddy, i live in So. Seattle area, there are a few good dealers around, The PNNA is a large group that puts on the largest coin show around here, Google PNNA and go threw the links will show you clubs, dealers, so on. I belong to the Boeing club, which you have to be a employee to join. with a club you will find good info and some good deals. find some people you can trust, good luck. you can pm me if you find some one, i'll give you the up or down.
Thank you so far, guys. Tacoma Coin and Stamp is the shop that sold me some Morgans back in 2000 that appear to have been "over graded" and not noted for improper cleaning (see my post from a couple weeks ago in the "What's it worth" section...https://www.cointalk.com/threads/1892-s-morgan-values.247648/ ). [I notice that I typed "show" in my first post when I meant "shop"]. I would like to show these to someone local for a hands-on impression, particularly the 1892-S. Any others? In Gig Harbor there's a shop called "Goldmine and Fossils" or something like that. Has bad hours, though. And there is at least one shop in Olympia. I also saw an ad for B&I Coin, but the whole B&I scares me! Rob
Been to B&I. Coins are way overpriced. WAY overpriced. I remember I did buy a harshly cleaned & polished Morgan and Peace from them for melt value. He mislabeled the bin they were in and even after checking spot he sold them to me for what they were labeled. I thought that was nice of him and went back a couple times to buy junk silver - which was always fairly priced. Edit - fun fact, according to the guys who lived there for a long time, B&I used to keep a gorilla.
A few options if you are ever in the north end: Redmond Rare Coins, Kirkland The Coin Market, Lynnwood Northgate Coin Shop, Seattle
Yes, the B&I used to have a gorilla! Ivan. I never went there while he was still there. The owners were pressured to give him to a zoo or wildlife park because of supposed poor treatment and/or facilities. I went to Tacoma Mall Blvd Coin and Stamp (the full name) after work yesterday. They had a lot of coins but I couldn't say if most of them were fairly priced or not. They had a small-date Cent 1970 Proof Set and wanted $100 when I've seen the price guides say $75 and they can be had on eBay for $75 to 100. $17.05 x face for junk silver. Is that typical (melt at spot is about $15, I believe)? Rob
