Hey all!! So, With silver being high, My impulsiveness and This dang Motorcycle I have been dreaming about,, I am thinking of selling some Morgans and Some Halves to finance my Summer Dream Bike Vacation!!
Is there a better way to get more then Melt for these.. Nothing is Slabbed but some OK dates (Not all '21) No CC but still nice stuff.. Plus a couple Hundred 40% Halves Most AU and BU.. Some other 90% rolls..

Its a bit of a nightmare of mine.. always have wondered what and how I would sell if the day ever came.. Now at this point I would have no clue how to liquidate the boxes of Lincolns varieties or Boxes of .. of.. jeeze.. tons of stuff.. like I said.. no clue.. how do I sell for Numismatic rather then Melt?? Is it Possible?

I was thinking this Silver would be the most easy to move.. and I got it when silver was low.. so why not.. oh .. and why the heck didn't I see that bake a couple weeks ago when Silver was near 50.. Dang!

    I need to get 4K from 60 Morgans/Peace (20+ with Decent Dates and MM) .. 240 40% Halves AU/BU and 50 90% Mixed Halves Liberty/Franklin/Kennedy

Where.. ?? Coin Shop?? Ebay (Takes too much time and effort for me right now)?
    Craigslist??

Ebay is your best bet, you could get more money if you made up some fake error or AT'd em though. lol

Ya.. I just hate the whole selling on ebay thing,..Takes too much of my time.. Prices are not very real... Shipping..
I think I may try a Shop.. I just see what they do to the Nubes that walk in.. They give them nothing for Gems.. And always under Melt..

The best method probably would be eBay but you have already ruled it out, not enough time left and too much work. That just leaves you Craigslist and dealers. Dealers are going to discount the melt value, so you will loose some dollars right off the top. Call several of them because some have stopped buying with the silver market in flux. Take your items to a coin show as well. Many dealers attend them with the priority of replenishing their stock or to look for wish list items furnished by their customers. So they are in the buying mode. Craigslist to me is something I personally would never consider. I would not buy or sell there. Meeting face to face in a parking lot or giving out your home address to someone without recourse, is not my way of doing business. That gets you back to eBay. Even with fee's, I would still follow that course of action. Delay your trip a little if you have to and add a couple of days on the end instead. Give yourself the month of June to get this accomplished. If setting up the ad and running the sale is non-appealing, they have seller assistants who will do this for you, but there is another fee involved. Contact eBay direct and they can provide you with names. Most have their own eBay stores to begin with, so they are qualified.

You are a numismatist, so what is the total numismatic value of what you are selling? (current greysheet).

My experience is that most dealers would want to buy at least a little back of bid, unless you have some nice things like a bunch of morgans in the 1890s that they have customers champing at the bit to buy.

Have you thought about selling some on the classifieds here at ct?

In a current "buying/sales negotiator" position for individuals desiring to acquire or liquidate relatively large quantities of PM products. I currently use the venues you cited, and several additional. I believe your $4000 expectation is slightly to moderately unreasonable.

My current experience is that both buyers and sellers have become reluctant, and have reduced their respective activities. I believe you'll find that my observations are also supported by C.D.N. reports. There is still a relatively active market, but I believe that your net respective funds to expect from sales through/to the Coin Shop, Ebay, Craigslist are: ~$2850-$3200, $3200-3400, $3600-$3800.

Just my experienced humble opinion, worth at least the purchase price.
    Good Luck!! :thumb:

I agree, Its just that eternal question.. "Dear God! What am I going to do with this Hoard someday!!!???"
And when a day comes.. as it has.. ouch.. now what..

I think the 3600 is about right.. yet if I can stretch out this Cycle owner for a week or two.. Silver market is Crazy... CRAZY is say!

You may also want to consider a local auction house. Do a little research by going to a few of them. It seems that some auction houses will sell common date Morgans for $10 over melt while others will go near melt. Many of the auction houses near me charge a 10% buyers premium but I'm unsure of the charge to the sellers. You might do better on ebay or craigslist but it is simpler to use a local auction house.

There are a few, like Midwest coin that hold 2 per week & accept late consignments they are also online which only increases your chances of getting good price. The only fee is seller fee, which is between 5-10% + they do all the work, photos included.
