I've picked these 5 coins up the last few months from my local coin shop and the recent coin show held here in town. Only 4 more "realistic" holes to fill in my folder. So what do ya'll think? 1917 T-1 was listed as XF-40 paid $100. 1917s T-1 was PCGS VF-20 paid $135. 1917 T-2 was listed VF-20 paid $65. 1917s T-2 was listed VF-20 overpaid at $115. 1924s was PCGS XF-40 paid $105.
Well, I think you did very well with your purchases. Those are at the retail level. Just before I go to a coin show I buy online the grey sheet and print it out. I may not be able to buy at the bid/ask range but it does give me a better idea of what I shoud be paying. And I have my Coin World Values with me just to cover the areas that the grey sheet is missing. Since you are missing 4 more, what are they? My guesses: 17D V1 and V2 (I can see them missing) 19D 19S (I think the 27-S might be missing also) (of coarse the 1916 and 1918/7-S) (and 1921 and 1923-S are out of range?) This is a very poplar set so you are doing fine with it. With 40 years of collecting I wish I would of followed the rule of buying keys, I have built alot of low grade sets and the keys are what matters. Plus you have all of the common coins they take up alot of room, safe deposit boxes do fill up, but a few keys coins will go up nicely and not take up so much room.
Hello Robert You are right about my 4 missing coins. The latest coin show I attended the 19d and 19s were no.s 1 and 2 on my hit list. Since I couldn't find either, I moved onto the 1917's. I have a 27s but it is not in the grade I want,,,so eventually I'll be upgrading. My 21 and 23s holes are already filled.
I have always loved those standing liberties. I did complete a low grade set with the 16 (PCGS-4) and 18/7-S (Cleaned ANACS). Many years ago traded them both in for a 93-S Morgan (NGC EF40) + 18 other coins.
Both the 1917 P & S Ty 2 are Type 1's. WAIT! I see the reverse, something strange here, the breast looks bare, and no chain mail, but you show a TY 2 reverse. huh? Or I need new glasses
Click on the image and it will become much bigger. Or get new glasses. Or both. Want an easier way to tell the T1 from the T2 on circulated pieces? The T1 pieces don't have stars below the eagle on the reverse -- the T2 pieces do.
