I usually steer away from Pawn Shops when looking for coins because they almost always want 5 to 10 times more for the coins than they are actually worth! However, I have passed fairly close to this one particular Pawn Shop several times in the past month, I just recently noticed it and something told me to stop in on Thursday. Well, I am a big believer in that little voice that whispers in your ear and I am glad that I did. I picked up a 1900 Liberty "V" Nickel that is raw but in at least MS-64 but may go MS-65 or better (I usually lean on the conservative side when grading and believe that it may actually come out closer to MS-65). I actually got the coin for a mere $4.49 plus taxes and was really ecstatic when I walked out of the Pawn Shop. I also picked up a 1792 Half Disme which appears to be authentic but has been in a fire. After much research and inspection, I believe that the coin may in fact be a Gallery reproduction that was burnt to wipe out the "COPY" which is on the Reverse between the Eagle's right wing and "HA" in HALF. Since I was a little low on cash, I put some other coins on layaway. There were 4 really nice high grade Morgan Silver Dollars, 3 of which are certified and graded. One special coin that I put on layaway was an 1898 Barber Dime that I picked up for $325 plus taxes and which appears to be a MS-65 or MS-66. It is by far, one of the nicest Barber Dimes that I have ever seen. I can't wait to get these coins out of layaway and will more than likely have the 1898 Barber Dime and the 1900 "V" Nickel, certified and graded. I will do some experimetation with my Digital Camera and see if I can get some decent pics of the 1900 "V" Nickel posted. Frank
Here are the pics! Well, here are the pics! However, they really don't show the beauty of this really nice and high grade Liberty "V" Nickel. Frank
Wow that really is in spectacular shape. It is hard to find them that nice for a reasonable price. Nice find!
WOW....nice nickel. I'd never find a deal like that around here, especially in a pawn shop. You really lucked out on that one. I'd like to see the other coins also once you get them out of layaway.
I was at a pawn shop the other day on business and happend to see the guys coins---$50 for a 1988 Proof Set---and $24 for his Morgan Dollars.... Nice V Nickel you found there!! Speedy
