My LCS has a bi-weekly silent auction. I usually go in several days before day auction ends to check out what's on the bid board. I make a few bids and take notes. Then try to get there about 45 minutes before end to bid on wanted items. I am trying to fill a Kennedy half dollar album as well as a Franklin half dollar album but I don't limit myself to only those coins. That keeps it exciting for me. I'm still very much a rookie. The silent auction can be very competitive. If you have multiple bids going and they are at different ends of the bid board you just have to pick an area close to what you want the most so you can be ready to continue bidding. Or you can place high bids to hopefully wrap it up (still no guarantees). I don't like to do that, I like to get it as cheap as possible so I us bid and move to area closest to my faves and hope nobody outbids your other items. It's usually very crowded. Anyway yesterday I won a few and lost a few. I will put price paid for each coin. I'm not necessarily asking did I pay to much or got good deal comments but please don't hesitate to give your opinion. Either way is fine, I'm mainly sharing my purchases. My biggest buyers regret was the 1962 set. I bought it on mainly for the Franklin because I need it for a set. I should have looked at it a bit closer. It's not bad but does have a couple more scratches than I realized. 1905 O Barber half-$12.50 (worn but still like it) 1853 Seated Quarter-$31 (all though not perfect I really liked this coin) 1962 set-$24 1944 S Walker half-$19.50 (love Walking Liberty's) 1941 P Walker half-$17.50 1857 Seated half dime-$10.50 ( this coin makes me smile) 1958 Proof Franklin half-$25 ( a bit of buyers regret because I forgot I already had one.)
Very nice selection. I've actually never owned a Half Dime, Seated Quarter or a Proof Franklin Half Dollar. I'm a big fan of Barber Halves. Do you have a photo of your 1905-O's reverse?
You did good for $12.50. A lot of the lower grade Barber Halves I see have a G-VG obverse and an AG reverse. Nice pickup, I would have bought it myself.
