I recently had purchased a lot on that .bay for 10 indian head cents in G-VG condition for $9.59 plus $4 I think for shipping. Well I check the mail today and get the cents TAPED to the invoice in a yellow envelope. I cannot believe someone would actually tape old coins to a piece of paper and send them like that. Needless to say I left the seller a note about this and gave him neutral feedback and reserve the right to change it to negative if needbe. Would I be to hard on the guy if I changed it to negative for him doing this? Seller's name on that .bay site is ronigreenescollectibles. I can't believe Im the first person he's done this with as he has 85 feedbacks, I know not many and I should have chosen someone with a better record... my lesson learned.
I certainly wouldn't have left positive feedback. I think neutral is appropriate as well as an explanation. Now...if he leaves you neutral or negative as retaliation...then I might change it to negative, but that's because I'm mean spirited.
I am not sure just what is appropriate, but what I am sure of is that you cannot change it once it has been left. And, CamaroDMD, the seller can no longer leave you anything except a positive so long as you paid.
Had it happen to me a while ago, the seller had never before sold coins and thought she was helping me by making sure they coudnt move LOL At first I was mad but then calmed down emailed her and explained what she had done wrong, got a lovely response back so hopefuly it woudnt happen to anyone else. I did not leave neg or nuteral as the seller just did not know any better.
Yes, at least they were not grossly expensive ones. Hopefully no tape residue was left on them. I have never received coins taped to an envelope before so I am still a happy camper. *knock on wood*
I would have sent the seller a note through Ebay explaining the wrongdoing and told the seller that the coins will be coming back for a refund.
Neutral was the right thing to do along with an email to the seller explaining why. I to have gotten coins taped like that and have sent emails. Everytime its been the same thing that DeOrc stated. The seller isnt into coins and thought they were doing the right thing by securing the coins so they did not rattle around. I am always on the lookout for people on ebay that generally do not sell coins and might have a few listed. That's where you will find the cherrypicking easiest. Its a cheap lesson, live with it and move on. Educate the seller so next time maybe they will do it better. Everyone seems to jump at the ebay sellers here so fast and furious. Yes there are alot of sharks on ebay. There are also alot of people who are just trying to make and extra buck by selling out there whatever they can find at their local garage sales. Slow down gang and take a look at what is really happening before jumping to conclusions.
I know how you feel. I got $70 of Ike's from the bank and cause they could not roll them they taped them. I actually shreaked & cringed but then explained to the teller about my reaction. That's a great price you paid on the Indians.
It does not matter with those coins at all. It does not matter with those coins at all. Come on folks it's ave. circulated Indian cents it don't matter - tape ain't going to make one little tiny bit of difference in those type coin - you'all know better than this - this is finding fault where it don't exist - talk about nit-picking. Save you words and posts and minutes in life for a little more important things than something as trivial as this.
Are there coins in your collection with tape residue on them? Would it matter if they were your coins? Certainly, if the seller is going to sell coins they should know better. I have recieved coins that were taped to a piece of paper but the seller had enough sense to put the coins in individual flips first......common sense, plain and simple.
I could care less but I don't know how. I could care less but I don't know how. This is a coin worth exactly $1.30 cents - we sell them by the bag and by the roll. You folks are to picky for my tastes. We don't deal like that here - a Indian cent in worn out condition with three days (in postage) of tape residue on it is not worth discussion any longer.
Note it's supposed to be an Indian Cent. Nice to know there are people out there with so much money and no regards for low grade coins that $1.30 is meaningless. So you sell them by the bag and by the roll? For how much? With no regards for prices you should offer all of us a bag or roll of them for face value. Even with tape on them. Put me down for about 1,000 of them at face value with tape. :smile All a little sarcastic. Try to remember there are millions of people out there that think $1.30 is a lot of money. With things the way they are now with so many out of work, that would really be a lot of money. If to you $1.30 is meaningless, please send all the members here that amount.
Oh by the way justndav76 I'd like to say WELCOME TO THE FORUM. And don't let ebay get to you. And the same with those feedback things. My Son sells on ebay and has many, many friends send in great feedbacks all the time. You should remember that many people that sell on ebay have no idea of what they are doing. Old saying is believe nothing of what you hear and half of what you see.
I sold a lot of early Indian heads once...three 1875 coins, I believe. I described them as being low-grade and culls in my post, and included good pics of them. The fellow that purchased them was extremely dissatisfied, and mailed them back, taped to an index card, accusing me of a scam. The coins could not really be harmed too much, given the condition they were in, but I was very upset.
I think you being a hard a$$ buy leaving him neutral feedback. Folks these days are selling everything they have just to make ends meet. Chances are he diddn't know any better. Not everone is a numismatic genius like yourself and most common folks have no idea how to properly mail coinage. Cut the poor guy a break and leave no feedback instead of neutral and email him to tell him what he did wrong.
Ok now people just chill. The Tape residue allows for bacteria to grow on coins. I've seen the harm you can get the reside off with acetone but the damage of tape sitting on your coin for several years does damage that usually can not be removed. Arg that's what's missing from my damaged coin collection. *sigh*. Oh well.
