Took a chance on a strip from and old scrapbook that had a few Swiss coins glued to it. Mostly common/circulated coins, but one of them peaked my curiosity - a fully lustrous mint state 1 franc with the date side glued onto paper and unable to be seen. The "before" pics: I was a bit concerned because I've had mixed results with removing glue off of coins, even with pure acetone. I wanted to avoid using any sort of chemical treatments and especially to avoid the brute force toothpick attack. Going ape on the glue is my preferred method for cheap/junky coins, but this is one of the lower mintage dates and pretty valuable in this condition, so that was not an option. I got lucky though, and after a couple minutes in boiling hot water, the whole glue splat came right off in one piece. "After" pic: Side note - the 6 in the date is raised significantly higher than the rest of the date. I did a quick survey of other examples and saw the same thing. Maybe that legendary Swiss quality control was not as tight as we thought Another coin form that group I'll post as a footnote, a 1934 10 rappen. This one was glued on the obverse/bust side and only the denomination side showing. It's a common coin, but you don't find too many in this shape, brilliant and almost P/L looking.
